Make your When I Die list

One sheet of paper that makes it easy for your friends and family to know what to do in the first 48 hours after you die. It isn't a will and doesn't give anyone legal authority.

How to do it

  1. Fill in the form, or print it blank and use a pen. Skip anything you don't know.
  2. Print it.
  3. Seal it in an envelope and write "When I die" on the front.
  4. Tell two people where the envelope is. Without this step, nobody will find it.

How to keep it private

  • This site doesn't receive or save what you type. Your browser or its extensions could still keep or see it.
  • I recommend writing your passcodes in pen after printing. Never type them on a work or shared computer.
  • Print on paper. Don't save it as a PDF.
  • Anyone who opens the envelope can get into your devices, so keep it somewhere private.
  • When a passcode changes, print a new list and destroy the old one.
  • The site's host, Cloudflare, handles basic visit data like IP addresses, as hosts do for any website.
